For a few years now, our team has been working on creating experience report videos of events and conferences, which we also call highlight videos. However, when ELMŰ-ÉMÁSZ commissioned us to create a live, immediate event video for them in 2018, it became clear that this would be our biggest challenge so far. Our client’s idea was that we would shoot a fast-paced summary material with several operators throughout their full-day birthday event, but at the same time we would cut it live. So, the event video showcasing the most important events of the day could be screened at the closing gala in the evening. This in itself was not a problem.
However, they did not think in the usual 2-3 minutes, but in a much longer, 8-minute material, supplemented with interviews, which had to be shot and subtitled in 2 languages, also on the same day. And if that wasn’t enough, the event was taking place at 4 different locations at the same time: in the ELMŰ headquarters in Budapest, at the ELMŰ Sports Center, and also in Soroksár and Fót. Therefore, the film was composed of interviews, drone footage, gimbal, steadycam, crane, and hand-held shots made at 4 different geographical points, which had to be translated, subtitled, and cut to music – all by the start of the closing gala. At the last minute, it turned out that there was no internet connection at any of the locations.
The making of the film required an incredible amount of organizational work, which lasted for several weeks, well before the start of the event. Our team finally counted 22 people, deployed at all locations in parallel. Each section had its own director and editor, who assembled their own sections based on a previously cut and timed previzualization on site, pulling in footage from each operator every 20 minutes. The work of taxi drivers and motorcycle couriers resulted in these shots being transported to our company’s headquarters, where the compositing, subtitling, and final editing took place. The ELMŰ 125-year highlight video is therefore still one of our greatest achievements in the genre, of which we are very proud.
