Template animations from “creative” or “animation maker” companies – Too good to be true

Whenever we deal with the SEO of the Mimicry website, we always see that dozens of websites advertise very cheap and very fast animation made from templates. If someone looks at these materials with an experienced eye, they can immediately see that they are quite bad, but they can still be misleading to many at first. The exaggerated cheapness always points to the lack of professionalism. We do not deal with these companies at all, except if a client comes to us who has already had a project knocked down by them.

FWS web studio was one of our clients who came to us after running aground with one of these non-professional websites. The hired team unfortunately didn’t stand up to the situation, so they eventually left everything and started over with us from scratch. Fortunately, we quickly found common ground and this clean logo animation was created:

The other company that had a similar bad experience was PLPDF. The problem here was that the hired contractor only used purchased templates, which was not sufficient for a complete project. So whenever a request came up that was not available on the internet, the contractor simply refused to implement it. Fortunately, we were also found in this case, so this explainer was made:

It is important to note that we are not saying that everything that is cheap is bad, or that we are not reasonably priced. The root of the problem lies in the fact that when we pay for animation, we are buying the time and expertise of the creators. This time is not always immediately visible in the finished product, but it is there in the details, decisions, and subtle nuances that elevate one work above another. However, not everyone is willing to invest this time into a project. The final result itself may seem similar at first glance, but if we look closely at the animation, it is quickly evident which one was thrown together by untrained people in a few hours, and which one was worked on by a professional for days, searching for the best solution.

In the digital democratization, the rapid spread of software has made it possible for many people to create animations, and this is constantly diluting the profession. These pages compensate for their lack of expertise by investing enormous energy in Google ads and SEO, thereby advancing in the search results. In addition, since they spend much less time on a project, they are sometimes willing to work for a tenth of the market price. However, in the end, this will not be good for anyone. A really bad animation can ruin the first impression of a whole brand, and if the animation has to be redone by another company, as happened in the two examples above, we ultimately pay twice.

It always has to be suspicious when a company’s name or brand name includes the words “creative”, “animation”, or “video”. It is easy to see that if a company tries to show its creativity by calling itself “creative”, it is quite frightening. Similarly, if someone calls themselves “animation maker” or something similar, it shows that they are not familiar with the basics of branding. Why would we trust our own carefully guarded brand to a company that doesn’t even have its own?

If there weren’t so many tools available online, Mimicry wouldn’t exist either, of course, digital democratization is a very important thing. However, this always needs to be accompanied by years of learning, experience, and professional humility. Taste is a subjective thing, but this does not mean that there are no professional standards in animation. It is necessary to know that whatever we think looks good, the animation that these websites sell is poor, slapdash work, and if someone puts this animation on their website, they are lowering their own brand to this level. We work with many clients with whom we have differences of opinion on what looks good and what doesn’t, but we can always assure you that the animation you purchase from us will not only please you, but will also meet the highest professional expectations.
