The Opening Season Gala of Tourism is the most important event in the tourism industry year after year. In 2018, the organizers wanted to elevate the visuals to a new level, so they asked us to create the animated backgrounds for the “Expert of the Year” award ceremony, which was the highlight of the gala.

To make the event’s design as grandiose as possible, the client imagined a total of 9 LED walls and canvases in the Congress Center, which was hosting the gala. Mimicry had to design and implement a moving animation that combined into a single, huge image on 7 irregularly shaped surfaces placed at different points in space.

The event’s certificate design followed the blue and gold color combination, so the animation also started along this line. The blue and yellow color combination is a frequently chosen color combination that can be traced back to the Ishtar gate of Babylon. Since the 7 canvases conceptually created a large, common space, we had to design and animate the entire surface at once, including the parts located between the canvases. This required significant computing capacity and long render times. A dark blue 3D abstract animation made of organic, fan-like lines was created in the background, which attracted the eye to the category and awardee’s name in the center.

Since the 3-3 hanging, vertical LED elements on the edges of the middle canvas were not suitable for displaying complex visuals, we designed a particle-based, waterfall-like animation on these. The most important element of the animation was obviously the display of the winners’ names, so we wrote them out on all 7 canvases, traveling through the entire space. The highlight was completed with 3D gold particles, balls and lens flares.
